Attacks in My City

As you might hear, there were suicide bombings in Surabaya, Indonesia a few days ago. Surabaya is the city where I live. My family and friends are safe, but there are many sad stories of those who were affected.

It was surprising because there had never been any incident before in this city. Also surprising is the fact that the attacks were carried out by whole families: parents and their children (as little as 7-year-old). In previous attacks in other places, I have never heard of them being carried out by whole families.

We are just as strong as ever, though. Life in this city is mostly normal with no fear.

But there are lessons to be learned. Never take things for granted. Appreciate what you have. Have faith. Make the most of your time.

After all, life is a gift. It’s our responsibility to make the most of it.
