My Gotta Get Goals

I have been tagged by Alex Shalman for Gotta Get Goals project with this rule:

In a new blog post, list and write about the top 5 to 10 goals that you gotta’ get so that you can truly say you have achieved your wildest dreams in life. These have to be your best, most exclusive, and over-the-top goals that you can pick off your goals list.

This is a very interesting project because we all must have goals if we are to advance in life. This project also pushes me to think deeper about my goals which of course is very useful for me.

So here are my gotta’ get goals (in no particular order):

  1. Living in my home country with U.S. level of income
It has been my dream for some time. I want to stay in my home country, which is Indonesia, but with U.S. level of income.
I was originally inspired about this when I read The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. While in the past people living in developed countries have greater chance to succeed, in this flat world people from all around the world have equal opportunity. This is very exciting for me because it means that I can live with the same standard as people in the most advanced parts of the world without having to move there. Technologies like the Internet make all these possible.
  2. Writing New York Times best seller
This is one of my wildest dreams. Writing a book published by a good publisher is hard enough, let alone making it a New York Times best seller! But wise people say that your dreams determine your future. If you aim low, you will achieve low in your life. So I aim high and I believe I will also achieve high.
  3. Traveling around the world
I like to visit new places. It widens my perspective and gives me new insights. So my dream is to travel to many places around the world.
  4. Meeting people from many nations
Besides visiting new places, I also like to meet new people. I learn a lot from them, especially those with different cultures. The richness of different cultures always amazes me.
  5. Touching people’s life
I want to touch people’s life and help as many people as possible live the fullest of life. Blogging is a good mean for this because it has worldwide potential audience.
  6. Contributing to my country
Many people say bad things about Indonesia, including some of the Indonesians themselves. This makes me sad. I’m always optimistic and it’s not without a reason. I believe that Indonesia can be a great nation if the people give their best contribution. For example, last year Indonesia was the world champion of International Physics Olympiad, one of the most prestigious scientific competitions in the world. It happens because of the contribution of the people behind it who nurture the teams selflessly for years. I respect a lot this kind of people. I hope I can also give my contribution.

  1. Thanks for participating Donald. Your goals are a good mix between fun, unique and inspirational. We both want to right NYBestseller… very cool!

  2. Yes, Alex. Who knows, maybe we can make the list together at the same week :).

  3. […] It’s interesting that I didn’t write about business success or financial needs. Huh, that’s something for me to consider why. I tend to speak what’s in my heart – I guess those things, while important and necessary, are not in my heart. That would be a good thing, in my opinion. […]

  4. Wish you all the best in attaining those goals it seems that you have achieved at least one of your goals has been accomplished.

    Good Luck

  5. Thanks for the encouragement, Tabs.

Now I wonder which goals of mine has been accomplished :). Maybe what you mean is “touching people’s life”, but I’m still far from touching “as many people as possible”. Besides, there is still a lot of room for improvement in term of quality.

Good luck also for you in achieving your goals!
