Ask the Readers: What Books on Health Do You Recommend?

If you want to live your life to the fullest, there is no doubt that physical health is important. After all, it’s through your body that you think and act. If there is something wrong with it, then you won’t be able to function as well as you should.

To be honest though, I don’t know much about health. That’s why I rarely write about it. But I’d like to learn more about it and I believe you should too. Doing that will only do you good.

So far, my favorite book on health is The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz. It talks about energy management, which includes physical health as an important part. But I believe that there are still many other good books out there.
So I’d like to ask you:

What books on health do you recommend and why?

Please share your answer in the comments so that everyone can read it. Thanks!

  1. How to eat, move, and be healthy by Paul Chek.
After listening to a few interviews and learning about Paul, he has a wealth of knowledge. It’s a very complete book that focuses on the “whole” of a person, not just some movements or a restrictive diet.

  2. It will oppose everything you’ve ever read before, but give it a try. I am healthier than ever after implementing.
The Paleo Solution – Robb Wolf
    Dan @ ZenPresence

  3. I come from a strength and conditioning background. Here are a two awesome books that I’ve used with great success:
The Impact Body Plan: Todd Durkin (high recommend this book)
    Warrior Cardio; Martin Rooney

  4. T. Colin Campbell’s The China Study started my path towards a plant-based diet and eventually (mostly) raw veganism, which I’m not going to proselytize here other than mentioning that I never knew I was unhealthy until I started eating this way and found out what it feels like to be healthy.
Born To Run by Christopher McDougall helped me discover barefoot running and develop a deeper awareness of my body in motion.

  5. I instruct “Personal Health Management” at a University and after reviewing multiple textbooks, our choice is: Insel, Paul M. & Roth, Walton T. (2012). Core Concepts in Health. (12th Ed. Brief). New York, NY: McGraw-Hill.
It contains an overview of each component of health and how the parts work collectively to create optimal wellness in an individual; ie, fitness and nutrition as well as relationships and intimacy, injury and illness prevention, aging, environmental health… I highly recommend this text.

  6. The Detox Solution is a bible. Highly recommend!

  7. I believe that mental health is the first step towards physical health. Without respect for yourself and discipline, which come from mental attitudes, a person is less likely to take steps toward physical health. I recomend “The Road Less Traveled” by Scott Peck and I am sure there are other helpful books out there.

  8. Rich and Thin,
Slim Down, Shrink Debt, and Turn Calories Into Cash
    by
    Deborah McNaughton and Melinda Weinstein

  9. Eat Right for Your Blood Type…I believe this has some validity due to genetics.

  10. Subscribe to “Runners World” magazine! Lots of inspiration!

  11. Hello Donald,
Here are a few books I will recommend because I love these and recommend everybody to at least read these once in a lifetime.
These books have not just added value to my life personally, but I was able to make a tremendous difference in the lives of those who needed just what I learnt from these incredible authors:
    1. What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You – by Dr. Ray Strand
    2. The OPTIMAL HEALTH REVOLUTION – by Dr. Duke Johnson
    Regards,
    Kumar

  12. A lot of interesting recommendations here. Thanks, everyone!

  13. Clinical Naturopathic Medicine by: Leah Hechtman

  14. The same thing every other health book says. All you need is some hard work. I am tired of seeing these schemes and scams lol.

  15. Gut and Psychology Syndrome – By Natasha Campbell-McBride
“All diseases begin in the gut!”

  16. Super Brain: Unleashing the Explosive Power of Your Mind to Maximize Health, Happiness, and Spiritual Well-Being by Rudolph E. Tanzi and Deepak Chopra, is a true game-changer in books about health.

  17. ‘Eat healthy be healthy’ is a motto I started using only this year. That’s as a result of my doctor telling me I border on diabetes and I’m over weight.
It so happens that my blog creatinglifestyle.com is about changing your life style, and if you visit the site you will find lots of content on healthy foods and the value of certain foods. This all came about as a result of the diabetes warning. since then, I’ve studied every thing I could find on foods that would clear me of any risk, and in my research I came across a book called The Metabolism Miracle Cookbook by Diane Kress. I highly recommend this book if you want a healthy lifestyle, it’s full of tips, info, recipes and ideas. I’m no longer at risk since changing my life style.

  18. “Younger next year” and “Dr. Abravanel’s Body Type Diet and Lifetime Nutrition Plan”. Both life changing text…..
