Learn some of your bosses jobs and make him/her dependent on you by knowing quick answers and knowing company policy, make yourself likable by understanding the boss is always the boss, allow them that but know your words are as if the boss was speaking, always take the bosses side unless you know it will get them in trouble, then you warn them so they can make the correction.
